Ireland’s best schools’ athletes were in Tullamore last Saturday for the Irish Life Health All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships. Wexford had not one but two dual medallists.
Michael Kent of Good Counsel New Ross, competing at junior level, won both triple jump (11.89 metres) and pole vault (3.40 metres).
Dannan Long of FCJ Bunclody won the Inter Boys high jump (1.85 metres) and took a bronze in the 200 metres (22.81 seconds).
Saidhbhe Byrne, Coláiste Bhríde Carnew, was 2nd in Senior Girls javelin (34.84 metres).
There was another medal for Good Counsel New Ross as James Prendergast was runner-up in Minor Boys shot put (12.46 metres).
Ailbhe Steger, St. Mary’s New Ross, was 2nd in Junior triple jump (9.56 metres).
Lily Ryan, Our Lady of Lourdes New Ross, won a bronze medal in the Junior Girls 1200m walk (5.31.98 minutes).
Loreto Wexford’s Lea Bolger was 8th in Minor Girls shot put (7.91 metres). Claragh Keane, Presentation Wexford, was 4th in Senior Girls 1500 steeplechase (5.36.21 minutes).
