News Round-Up: Bowler moves 6th on the all-time list, Roisin selected for EYOF and Masters impress in Belfast!

Michael Bowler: European Combined Events Team Championships

Enniscorthy AC’s Michael Bowler travelled to Madeira last weekend as part of the Irish team for the European Combined Events Team Championships. Michael was joined by Shane Ashton (Trim AC) and Rolus Olusa (Clonliffe Harriers AC).

On Day 1 of the decathlon Michael competed in the 100m, where he ran a new PB of 11.10s, Long Jump, where he got another new PB of 7.12m. He also competed in the Shot Put, throwing 12.84m, the High Jump, where he jumped 1.95m and the 400m, where he ran a time of 50.09s.

Day 2 started with the 110m Hurdles, which he did in a time of 15.06s, the Discus, where he threw 38.51m, the Pole Vault, arguably his best event, where he managed to clear 4.50m, the javelin, in which he threw 51.39m and the 1500m, where he clocked 4.48 mins.

This ensured that Michael finished 2nd overall of all the men competing in the decathlon in the European Combined Events Team Championships 2nd league. More impressively though, Michael scored a points total of 7379 points. Not only is this a big PB for Michael in the decathlon it also means that the 2018 Mr Oil County Senior Athlete of the Year moves 6th on the Irish all-time list.

This is a superb achievement and on behalf of all 18 clubs affialated to Wexford Athletics we would like to congratulate Michael on his success.

Roisin selected for European Youth Olympic Festival!

Well done to Menapians AC’s Roisin O’Reilly who has been selected to the Irish team for the upcoming European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan. Roisin will compete in her favourite event the 2000m Steeplechase. This is a fitting reward for all Roisin’s hard work and dedication. Congratulations to Roisin, parents Senan and Catherine and coach Mick McKeon on this fantastic achievement! The European Youth Olympics take place between the 21st and 27th of July

Northern Irish Masters Championships

Well done to Adamstown AC’s duo of Eamonn McEvoy and Patrick Mahoney who competed at the Northern Irish Masters Championships in Belfast recently. Eamonn was first in the Hammer, Shot Put and Weight for Distance, while Patrick was 1st in the Javelin, 2nd in the Shot Put and 2nd in the Weight for Distance.
