Athletes from Co Wexford had mixed success last weekend at the IUAA Track & Field Championships in Cork.
Annie Stafford (DCU) placed 5th in the Long Jump with 5.17m. Emma Owens (DCU) made a great start to her outdoor season with 4 new pbs in the Women’s Hammer. She ended up in 4th place with a best of 44.49m. Emma also placed 4th in the Discus. In the Men’s Hammer Kieran Murphy (WIT) finished in 7th place with a throw of 44.05m. Conor Wilson (AIT) was 4th in the 100m (11.42s) and 6th in the 200m (23s). Shaun Donohoe was delighted with his 49.79s in the 400m (6th place). Conor Gaffney (UCD) was 6th in the Men’s 400m Hurdles. Enniscorthy athlete Peter O’Connor (IT Carlow) was 7th in the 100m Hurdles. Peter O’Connor also placed 6th in the Javelin (38.31m). Tim Bowler (UCD) was 8th in the High Jump (1.75m). Jane Shovlin (MU) was 10th in the Long Jump. The WIT team in the Men’s 4x100m Relay consisted of three Wexford athletes – Tony Stafford, Shaun Donohoe and Michael Deady. They were a respectable 6th in the final. Conor Gaffney was part of the UCD team which placed 4th.
