Gold in Cross Country Relays for Striders Boys

The Irish Life Health National Intermediate & Masters Cross Country, along with the Juvenile B & Relay events, took place at Dundalk IT last Sunday.

The highlight of the day from a Wexford point of view was team gold for the United Striders U14 Boys team in the relays. Well done to Myles Hewlett, Eoin Shannon, Cosmo Hewlett and Aidan Kehoe. In the same race the club’s B team placed 7th, while their U12 team were 6th.

Ger Forde of Slaney Olympic placed 6th in the All-Ireland Intermediate Cross Country Championships in Dundalk last Sunday. Kilmore’s Jackie Carthy placed 2nd O45 in the Masters Women’s race, 12th overall. Ann Sullivan (DMP) was 4th O55. In the Masters Men’s race Jim Stafford (Slaney Olympic) was 2nd O55 (71st overall), Ger Moloney (St Paul’s) 5th O55 (99th), David Barron (S.O.) 15th O50 (102nd overall), Billy Reck (S.O.) 21st O50 (117th overall), David Kehoe (S.O.) 23rd O50 (119th overall), Ted Flannelly (United Striders) 24th O50 (123rd), Pat O’Callaghan (U.S.) 30th O50 (138th), Michael O’Flaherty (Kilmore) 14th O45 (155th overall), Nicky Foley (Kilmore) 45th O40 (192nd), Matt Flannelly (U.S.) 18th O55 (194th), Gavin Kelly (U.S.) 57th O50 (208th).

In the Juvenile B Cross Country, Éabha Keane (DMP) was 11th in U11 Girls. Wexford’s top performer in U13 Girls was Aoife Walsh (DMP) in 12th; Katy Foley (Kilmore) placed 65th. Kate O’Flaherty (Kilmore) was 17th in U15 Girls. Erinn Shannon (US) was delighted with her 5th place in the Girls U17 race. Conor Keane (DMP), no doubt a little leg-weary from the schools cross country event in Carlow the previous Thursday, was 12th in Boys U17 race.
