Anne Gilshinan of Slaney Olympic AC broke the O55 800m World Record on Saturday at the Irish Milers Club meet, the Le Cheile AC International in Leixlip. Gilshinan broke the O55 World Record in the 1500m at the IMC meet in Greystones earlier this season.
In Saturday’s race, Gilshinan found herself in 4th position with a lap to go and made her decisive move at exactly the right time with 150m remaining. This ensured that she not only won the race but also ran a time of 2.19.63 mins, good enough to obliterate the previous World Record by almost 2 seconds.
Indoors this year, Anne finished 2nd in the O50 1500m race at the World Masters Indoors in Torun, Poland.
Her incredible list of achievements continue to grow and on behalf of all 18 clubs affiliated to Athletics Wexford, we would like to congratulate Anne on her fantastic achievement.
Also competing in the IMC meet yesterday were Aedan Rodgers and Adam O’Connor both of United Striders AC. Both lined up in the 800m ‘C’ race, where they were up against former Olympian and now World Masters medallist Shane Healy (Metro St. Brigid’s AC). Aedan has had his eyes on breaking the 2 minute barrier for 800m for some time now and finally achieved that goal on Saturday. His time of 1.59 mins ensured that he won the race also, an added bonus. Adam finished 10th in a time of 2.06.7 mins, proving that he is in excellent shape ahead of his Leinster Juvenile Championships next weekend.
In the wind-assisted sprints at this meet, Menapians AC’s Michael Deady clocked a time of 11.50s into an illegal wind of 3.4 m/s. This was a Seasons Best for Michael.
