A young Menapians AC team had a good day at the first round of the AAI National Indoor League at Abbotstown, Dublin. Aaron Tierney-Smith placed 2nd in the 60m Hurdles with a big new pb of 8.72s. He followed up with a second pb in the Long Jump for more valuable points. And there was a third pb in the 60m in which he competed as a guest. Conor Wilson, also competing in the 60m, clocked 7.20s for 5th. Jack Hayden stepped up to 800m and acquitted himself very well for his first run over the event taking 6th place in a solid 2.04m.
The club had three girls competing as guests – April Keeling, Liadh Dwyer and Suzie Brennan. The trio were delighted to have the opportunity to line up alongside some of Ireland’s top sprinters. All three acquitted themselves very well over two rounds of 60m. In the men’s sprints there was good performances from Shane O’Neill (7.6s pb), just ahead of his dad Jimmy, and Adam Leahy also running a speedy best of 7.8s. Michael Deady clocked 7.4s.
The next round of the Indoor League takes place in Athlone on January 27th.
