Kilmore A.C.’s Jackie Carty once again showed her class as a road runner with a facile win at the recent Leinster Masters Road Races in Gowran. Jackie has been so consistent over the past few seasons. Share the secret!
In the Men’s Novice race, United Striders A.C. grouped very well to secure a good 2nd place finish for the club. The scoring team was led home by Alan O’CONNOR in 11th followed by John MCGRATH (12th), Ted FLANNELLY (15th) and Sean Murphy (21st).
The same four USAC athletes, with the addition of DMP’s John Stone (19th) also secured Silver medals for Co Wexford in the County Teams.
USAC’s strength in depth was evident in the good placings of their next two athletes with Brendan LYNG (22nd) and Pat O’CALLAGHAN (24th).
In the Master’s race Pedro Calvo of Sliabh Buidhe Rovers A.C. was first Co Wexford athlete home crossing the line in 4th place overall and 2nd in O40 category. Pedro led SBR to Club Team Gold. The other SBR finishers were Myles GIBBONS (6th & 4th O45), Joe LILLIS (16th & 6th O35), Trevor CONROY (17th & 7th O35), Paul GIBBONS (27th & 11th O35). The ever youthful Billy HARPUR (O70) won a Silver medal.
SBR’s top four scorers gave Co Wexford a 4th place finish in the County Teams on same points as 3rd placed Kildare. Kildare’s 4th and last team scoring member finished two places ahead of SBR’s 4th scorer and, given the rules, this left SBR just out of the medals.
